The month of December has been a cold one in Anchor, with the bots working hard to bring a little winter joy to the city. This year, there's a little extra surprise - the bots welcome the participation of the nanites, who are able to join in with the winter holiday protocols for the first time in a long time following their long imprisonment.

And what are the nanites doing? Well...this winter wonderland has been missing a conspicuous offender: the mistletoe. That's where the nanites come in...

▶ The nanites will be floating around in little swarms, lit up bright with various colors, and when they run into any sentient creature, they will enclose them in a harmless invisible shield with a radius of approximately three feet by three feet. Once the characters are entrapped, they'll be stuck for exactly one hour...unless they kiss!

▶ There is no compulsion to kiss, and characters are welcome to just wait out the hour and hope they're stuck with a good conversationalist, but if they want to get on their way, they'll have to kiss their fellow captive, in a specific way depending on the color of the nanite swarm that's trapped them.

▶ The bots will be helping by helpfully informing any trapped characters they need to kiss as they pass by. They won't say what kind of kiss because that would make it too easy. But at least now you know, right?

▶ This meme can be counted as game canon and used for AC if threads continue into January (don't forget: December is check-in only) if both parties wish. Characters who are not in the game are welcome, and threads from this meme can also count for application samples! Come join us!

No problem with the pace, but a problem with progress, practically immediately. While they were chatting, the nanites took advantage of a pair of people close enough to one another to snare, and did just that, so Cho's very first step brings her up short against an invisible wall with a little 'oof' of surprise.

Again.

Seriously, why?

That little 'oof' comes a little too late and Kieran winds up walking right into Cho.

"Ah, dammit, I'm sorry!"

He backs up to give her space... and winds up bumping against one of those invisible walls as well. Tentatively, Kieran reaches out with an arm to feel around them and sighs.

"...Is this one of 'em nanite traps?"

"It is," Cho confirms, pressing against the wall even though she knows it won't give under her touch. "You've already been stuck in one of these?" At least that means the conditions won't come as a surprise to him. He strikes her as a somewhat skittish person, and she knows that she makes him nervous. To be fair, most people make him nervous, but she's the one he's currently trapped with.

Somewhat skittish is putting it lightly, but thankfully any unease Kieran's felt around Cho in the past has been slightly mitigated by her kind words, actions, and overall support that she's been providing him during their time here. It's something he'll be forever grateful for.

And yes, definitely, most people make this poor guy nervous.

"Y-Yeah. I got trapped with, uh, with Miss Elleru and Ben before."

He pauses.

"Uh... separately. N-Not together. If that makes any difference."

Okay, time for a topic change.

"Have you gotten trapped yet?"

"Once so far." She doesn't offer more information than that, and the hopes Kieran won't take it personally. "Maybe you should sit back down? You're a little tall for me like this." Not that she's so short that kissing while standing is impossible, but the lack of vision on his part makes it trickier. It's like eating with a spoon. Being able to visually gauge the distance is the thing that makes it possible, and the thing that gets taken for granted until you can't do it any more.

It wouldn't have been a problem with Elleru - she's easily got head and shoulders on Cho. Here, he's just as likely to accidentally smash his nose against her forehead as he is to get it right on the first try.

Kieran doesn't think anything of Cho's request, and he obediently lowers himself to the ground, using the invisible wall as an impromptu guide. His legs aren't quite crossed, but a loose semblance thereof, once he's comfortable. He keeps his face straight forward outside of occasionally cocking his head to the side to catch an outside sound (usually just a stray buzz from an odd nanite or two).

"I-Is this alright?"

He's not sure if Cho's going to want to kiss him or not--with his track record back home, the latter is far more likely than the former. That said, he can feel his heart ramping up a bit with the very prospect that he could share a smooch with her.

He seems nervous again. If even Cho can tell, then it's bad. She considers the possible reasons for this. "When you were trapped before, did you kiss them, or did you wait until the barrier went away on its own?"

Or did he kiss only one of them? Is the prospect of kissing her making him nervous because he doesn't want to? "We can wait for it to wear off if you don't want to kiss me, Kieran. I won't be offended if you'd rather do that. I promise."

"W-What? No! I-I mean... n-no."

Kieran scrubs at his face with both of his hands and leans his head back against the barrier in a bid to get himself together. He heaves a deep sigh before he tries speaking again.

"I don't mind kissin' you, Cho. Honest. I just..."

Ugh. Being vulnerable with feelings. It sucks.

"I-I just figure that someone like you ain't gonna want to kiss someone like me. Miss Elleru did before we we got trapped, and Ben was okay with kissin' my hand, but it ain't... I ain't the kind of person that smart, pretty ladies like you want to be around. Y-You get what I mean?"
