He wants to say that it's complicated, that it would be too hard to explain what made him this way, but it wouldn't be. It isn't complicated at all. It was literally just one event that set him down this path, and maybe he's over-complicated it himself over time, but it's super simple.

I appreciate what you're saying, I really do, and I think you're right. But I've seen first hand what happens when I fail to act, when I fail to stop something from happening that could have been prevented. I've lost family because of it. I guess it's just a habit now, and I don't know how to break it.
