Annie has never spent as much time in the Capitol as Finnick. For one thing, she'd been a victor for fewer years, and for another, she'd never gotten as many invitations as Finnick had. He'd been beloved, she'd been an embarrassment in their eyes. It had been better that way, kept her safer, they'd told themselves. Too many people, too much adulation, it's too much for her sometimes in a way it's not for Finnick. When they're too much for him, he can brush them off.
If he needs to, he'll brush them off for Annie, too.
But so far, she's coping, in her own way.
"Guess I did mostly hang around with the top people."
He pulls the face that the people's he's talking about deserve, then he grins.
"Maybe not anymore."
He takes a step closer to Annie, then leans towards her so his arm bumps into her shoulder.
