It's a good question. Somewhere like this place, where it's unlikely that there are any Templars, perhaps it's easy to think that a member of the Brotherhood would have no purpose. However, he thinks the Brotherhood and being an Assassin is much more than simply fighting the Templar Order. His beliefs have not change.
Perhaps he has the freedom to choose - more than he ever felt he had - but even so, he only shakes his head.
