If nothing else, t hat alone is a source of commiseration between the two en, despite their innate differences. Between Kieran's nervous jitters and Charles' calmness, they couldn't exude energy that contrasted more, but they could agree on avoiding the loud noises and claustrophobia of tightly-packed civilization.

That said, it's not all bad, right? Kieran's heard a couple of things that kind of soften that icky feeling. Maybe.
