[ With his attention divided between their discussion and the padlock, Qubit doesn't see the zombie coming until Carlisle's already commanded it to stop. But what startles him more is the mental attack that hits him at the same time. His psi-shielding is enough to deflect it, but it notifies him of the blast with the urgency of a fire alarm. Even that's barely necessary, because it feels like he just rode out an explosion from inside a force field - that is, he's not actually affected, but he bloody well noticed it.

So he does stop what he's doing, but not because Carlisle told him to.

Fortunately, the zombie also stops, albeit barely a meter away from him. Qubit quickly backs off, glancing between it and Carlisle in undisguised shock. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the dots here (and he is a rocket scientist), so that shock quickly resolves to surprised indignation. ]
